Our monthly promotion right now is a free EMI (electro meridian imaging), or pre-acupuncture evaluation. It is a small electrical device that is used to evaluate how far off an individual's meridians are, to determine whether or not acupuncture will be an effective form of treatment for them. It is both non-needle and non-invasive. Since Dr. Prather is a structure/function doctor, he strives to make individuals achieve health by balancing their bodies, aka finding homeostasis. Everyone would have something to gain from acupuncture, or something to work on to achieve a higher level of health. The EMI serves as a reproducible diagnostic to determine how far off homeostasis a body may be; it lets us know how necessary a treatment session would be. It is something Dr. Prather highly recommends, and is normally done before acupuncture sessions to determine which points need the most attention, or on it's own as a diagnostic tool to keep track of meridian blockages.

Once a meridian is determined to be unbalanced (or as I call it, "out of whack") the diagnosis is confirmed by pain patterns. Meridian blockages produce patterns of pain a majority of the time. This means that based on the meridian reading, we can pain that is associated with blockages of energy flow, then press on an area to produce small pains in the patient to confirm the meridian reading; a neat little check and balance procedure. Followup EMI's will also show improvements in balancing the meridian systems, which means a higher overall level of health.
